OMG! I want to get a Brazilian but I’m scared
We have all been there, believe me I have too! But I can say with full confidence that it is not nearly as painful as you are imagining in your head.
I’ll give you a quick rundown on what to expect when going for a Brazilian wax.
WHEN YOU ARRIVE
Firstly, your therapist will take you to a private and comfortable waxing room. We will leave you alone for a few moments while you undress from the waist down and lie down on the waxing bed.
When we return we will explain and discuss everything that will happen during your Brazilian wax so nothing is left in the land of unsure. Now, please don’t feel embarrassed, trust me, this is our job we have seen it all and to be honest we are not looking or judging you, we simply see hair that is to be removed.
THE WAXING PROCESS
Just to be clear we ALWAYS wear gloves and NEVER double dip! We start by spraying a pre-wax cleanser which prepares the skin and aids in wax adhesion.
We begin on the front with warm wax, to which a strip is laid over the top and pressed down, we then pull off the strip in the opposite direction to the hair growth removing the hair from the roots. Little by little we move our way down. We then swap to hot wax which is gentler on sensitive areas.
Once the wax is complete, we will put on a soothing oil, and tweeze any stray hairs that were missed.
HOW TO CUT DOWN ON THE PAIN
Like I said before, it is safe to say that it is not nearly as painful as you have imagined. I mean it doesn’t tickle but many clients find their upper lip or legs hurt more than a Brazilian wax.
Choose your therapist wisely, a fast wax is not necessary a good wax, it can be more painful and also may not be performed well. It will often leave you with abrasions, snapped hairs, missed hairs and can result in more ingrown hairs than normal.
Some salons are like conveyor belts, your in, your out, no time is taken to ensure you are comfortable and that the service is being performed correctly. Read about this in my next blog ‘The Seven Minute Brazilian – Beware’
THE IMPORTANCE OF REGULAR WAXING
Your first few waxes will never be perfect. Why? This is because we need to synchronize the hair growth cycle to give you the smoothest results for longest period of time. This usually takes about 4-5 waxes.
A Brazilian wax lasts 3-6 weeks, the hair will grow back, but will grow back finer and lighter before it will be time to do it all again. But veterans of the Brazilian will swear to you that the first time is the worst and then any pain dramatically lessens the more waxes you get.
It is important to stick to a regular waxing schedule. We suggest you get waxed every 4- 5 weeks, and not just during the bare-all summer months, it is the secret to more comfortable waxing and better results,”
Once you have done it, the chances are you will never go back.
