Ingredients you WANT in your Skincare

70% of your skin care results come from using your home care products. You will see the biggest results from regular use of your cleanser, sunscreen, moisturiser and serums.

So what ingredients should you look for when selecting skincare?

I often talk about nasty ingredients in skincare products, so to change things up I am going to talk a little about some active ingredients that you SHOULD be looking for based on skin conditions. So her we go,

ANTI-AGING SKINCARE

- Vitamin C (Ascorbic Acid )

Ascorbic Acid or Vitamin C is a power anti-oxidant, it seeks out and destroys free radicals. Vitamin C is an essential nutrient involved in tissue repair and therefore improves the skins elasticity, stimulates collagen synthesis and skin brightening. It is essential in combating ageing skin.

ACNE / CONGESTION + SENSATIVE / ROSACEA SKINCARE

– Salicylic Acid (BHA) & Niacinamide

Salicylic Acid is a BHA (beta hydroxy acid) and it is less irritating than AHA’s (alpha hydroxy acids) due to a smaller molecular structure. It is found naturally in foods such as raspberries and winter green vegetables. It contains anti-bacterial, anti-inflammatory and anti-oxidant properties which are naturally good for your skin.

It also exfoliates gently, meaning it is helpful when treating Rosacea (a condition that causes redness and often small, red, pus on the face) and other skin types prone to break outs.

Niacinamide is also known as Vitamin B3 or Nicotinic Acid. It helps to fight acne and control oil flow. It is also very soothing and a wonderful anti-inflammatory for the skin. These properties make it helpful when treating Rosacea. It also helps to regenerate elastin & collagen improving the skins texture and strengthening its protective barrier.

DRY/DEHYDRATED SKINCARE

- Hyaluronic Acid

Hyaluronic Acid is a natural humectant (attracts moisture from the air to the skin surface) which increases the skins water content and enhances plumpness, lubrication, moisture and elasticity of the skin.

A great thing about Hyaluronic Acid is that it's extremely light and watery, a great benefit for anyone with acne-prone skin who is averse to creamy or oily moisturisers.

There are many more I could also talk about but that’s for another day, these are some of the most effective and common actives found.
